1. Booking & Payment

How do I book a tour with Traumland Tours?

You may begin by sending us an inquiry via our Enquiry Form on the website (name, email, travel dates, desired style of tour). We will reply with suggested itineraries and cost estimates, and once you approve that, we send a booking confirmation and invoice.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept secure online payments via credit/debit cards, bank transfers, and payment gateways integrated into our site. (Your payment is processed through a secure, encrypted service.)

We will provide the payment instructions once your itinerary is confirmed.

Do I need to pay a deposit? What is your cancellation/refund policy?

Yes, to confirm your booking, a deposit is required (typically 20–30 % of the total cost; exact terms will be in your quote). The balance is due some days before arrival (we will confirm the exact deadline).

Cancellation/refund policies depend on how far in advance you cancel. We’ll include the detailed policy in our terms & conditions and your quotation. (Shorter notice cancellations may incur higher penalties.)

Can I change the itinerary after booking?

We offer 100% tailor-made tours. If you request changes before the trip starts, we will try to accommodate them; additional costs or adjustments may apply. Once the tour is underway, changes may be limited by logistics, but we will always do our best to accommodate your preferences if possible.

3. Sri Lanka Travel Basics & Practical Information

Do I need a visa to enter Sri Lanka?

Yes — most foreign visitors require a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). You can apply online in advance via the official Sri Lanka immigration website. Visa requirements depend on your nationality and the length/purpose of your stay.

Make sure to check current rules before traveling.

What is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons affecting different regions:

  • Southwest Monsoon (May to September) affects the southwest, west coast, and the Hill Country.
  • Northeast Monsoon (October to January) affects the northeast, east coast, and some northern parts.

Ideal times:

  • West & South Coasts + Hill Country: December to March
  • East Coast & North: April to September
  • For wildlife (especially elephant/animal spotting), the dry seasons in each region are better.
  • We will advise you the best time depending on which regions you plan to visit.

Is Sri Lanka safe for travellers?

Yes, overall Sri Lanka is considered relatively safe for tourists. However:

  • Exercise caution in crowded places (pickpocketing)
  • Respect local customs (dress modestly at religious sites)
  • Stay updated on local travel advisories
  • Use official transport, trusted guides, and reliable accommodations
  • We provide 24-hour support during your tour, and our guides are experienced and knowledgeable about safe routes and practices.

What about health & vaccines?

Please consult your local doctor or travel clinic before the trip. Common recommendations include:

  • Routine vaccinations (MMR, tetanus, etc.)
  • Hepatitis A & B
  • Typhoid
  • Carry insect repellent, sunscreen, first aid kit
  • Make sure to carry medication and prescriptions; avoid drinking tap water—stick with bottled or filtered water.

What currency is used and can I exchange money?

The currency is Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). You can exchange major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.) at the airport, banks, or official exchange counters in cities. Many hotels, restaurants, and shops accept credit cards (Visa/MasterCard), but in remote areas cash is safer. Inform your bank ahead about overseas card use.

What languages are spoken?

Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages. English is widely used in tourism, hotels, and services. Our guides and drivers speak fluent English and possibly other languages if arranged.

Do I need to tip guides, drivers, and staff?

Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. If you feel your guide or driver did an excellent job, tipping around 10 – 20 USD (or equivalent) per day is customary. Small tips to hotel staff, porters, etc. are also common.

What is the electricity / plug type?

Sri Lanka uses 230 V, 50 Hz AC with Type D (three large round pins) outlets, and sometimes Type G. Bring a universal adapter if your devices use different plugs.

4. Logistics & On-Tour Questions

How early will you pick me up from the airport?

Once your flight arrival details are shared, we will schedule a pick-up time at the airport. We’ll coordinate closely to ensure no delay. If your flight is delayed, please notify us in time.

What kind of vehicle will I travel in?

We use modern, air-conditioned, insured vehicles suited to the size of your group—cars, vans, minibuses, Large buses or SUVs. All vehicles are well-maintained, comfortable, and driven by professional drivers.

Are accommodations comfortable / safe?

Yes. We partner with over 1,000 hotels in our database, from boutique lodges to luxury resorts. You can choose your preferred hotel category (standard, deluxe, boutique, luxury), and we will book based on your standard, budget, and preferences.

What about meals & dietary restrictions?

Meals included in the program will be clearly indicated (breakfast, lunch, dinner). We can accommodate most dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, etc.) if requested in advance. In remote areas, choices may be limited, but your guide will help find suitable options.

Will I have free time during the tour?

Yes, most itineraries include free/leisure time for rest, relaxation, shopping, or exploring on your own. If you prefer more or less free time, we can tailor accordingly.

What happens if there is a weather disruption or emergency?

We monitor weather and local conditions closely. If a planned activity is unsafe due to weather or other emergencies, we reserve the right to adjust the itinerary (reschedule or substitute with an alternate activity). In emergencies, our 24-hour support team and guides are available to assist.

5. Before You Leave / Extras

What should I pack / what to bring?

Some essentials:

Can you arrange internal flights / train / domestic transfers?

Yes. If your itinerary benefits from domestic flights or special train journeys (like the scenic train to Ella), we can arrange these as part of your package (subject to availability). Additional costs will apply.

How far in advance should I plan my tour?

Ideally, 3–6 months in advance gives you more flexibility in selecting hotels, scheduling domestic logistics, and securing better rates. However, we can accommodate shorter notice trips too—please get in touch as soon as possible.

What languages can your guides speak?

Our guides speak excellent English. If you require a guide in another language (German, French, Spanish, etc.), please let us know at the time of inquiry; we will try to arrange multilingual guides where possible.

How many days do I need for a good Sri Lanka trip?

It depends on what you want to see. A typical 7–10 day tour can cover cultural highlights, a wildlife safari, hill country, and a beach stop. If you want to explore more deeply (north, east, remote areas), 14–18 days is ideal. We will help you pick an itinerary that fits your timeframe.
